Serving Our Church
Health, Wholeness, and Caring
Vibrant living isn’t just about spiritual health, for God created us as physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual beings. We at Redeemer seek to minister to all aspects of people’s lives. Our on-staff parish nurse coordinates a team of volunteers to empower our people to seek wholeness through prayer, education, and health care. If you would like more information please contact Mary.
Care Team
This team serves a delicious, well-balanced meal to church members and families who have recently had a death in the immediate family, have recently had a baby, or have had a hospital stay following an accident or surgery. Others on this team serve by visiting those in the hospital or our shut-ins.
Jacob's Ladder
These men assist the disabled, elderly, single parents, or anyone needing home maintenance.
Prayers & Squares
This new ministry provides a prayer quilt for members of Redeemer who are facing a life-changing illness. Volunteers are needed to assemble quilts, tie knots and pray for the recipient.
Blood Pressure Screening
Blood pressure screenings are usually planned following the morning worship service on a monthly basis. Our volunteer nurses help with this ministry, and encourage those with problems to see their physician. Please see the church calendar for the next scheduled screening.
Support Groups
Various support groups are scheduled throughout the year. These meetings are not only open to those who attend Redeemer, but also those from our community. If you would like to lead a group or be a part of one, please contact Mary. Some of the recent groups meeting are:
- Griefshare – a 10-week program for those who have lost loved ones
- Overcomers of Adult Sexual Abuse – an 8-10 week program
- “Strength for Today and Bright Hope for Tomorrow” – cancer support group for cancer patients and their family members
Stephen Ministry
This ministry equips lay people to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care to individuals in our congregation and community who are experiencing difficulties in their lives.
We all experience challenges in life – times when we could benefit from the support of a caring Christian friend. Stephen Ministers are ready to provide the emotional and spiritual care we need when faced with a crisis or difficulty such as:
- Loss of a loved one
- Hospitalization
- Divorce or separation
- Loneliness or discouragement
- Spiritual crisis
- Unemployment or a job crisis
- A terminal illness
- Incarceration
- Aging
- Birth, adoption, miscarriage, or infertility
- A chronic illness
- Relocation
- Recovery after an accident or disaster
- And many more
Stephen Ministry is a confidential ministry: The identity of those receiving care and what takes place in each caring relationship remain private.
A Stephen Minister is . . .
- A child of God who walks beside a person who is hurting
- A congregation member with gifts for care-giving who was carefully selected to serve in this role
- A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in providing emotional and spiritual care
- A caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages
- Someone who will “be there” for his or her care receiver, meeting faithfully for about an hour each week, for as long as there’s a need
If you or someone you know could benefit from the care of a Stephen Minister; or if you are interested in possibly becoming a Stephen Minister; or if you have any other questions about Stephen Ministry, contact Mary.
