World MissionsChurch Ministries Church MinistriesOur Missionaries and Projects Woody & Beverly Baker, along with their daughters, Carrie and Margo, all longtime members of Redeemer, entered fulltime mission work following the 2001 Mission Conference. They joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and serve in Australia at the national center in Melbourne. They hope to join us for the Mission Conference 2007. Kristen Bergeron - Redeemer member, PCR youth ministry intern during 2003, and has now served with LeaderTreks for two years. This youth-focused ministry helps to develop the church leaders of tomorrow through short-term mission trips in the US and to Central and South America. Stephen & Christina Byerly - UGA Wesley Foundation - Christ Centered, Biblically Based, and Empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Wesley Foundation is committed to raising up a new generation of Christian leaders. Stephen and Christina are beginning their life together by serving the Lord at UGA. Barry & Cathy Cox - Gospel for Asia. After 17 years serving at Thornwell Orphanage where Barry taught, spent 10 years as Athletic Director, and coached several sports including football, Barry is now in charge of publications and production for GFA. Their oldest daughter is in college and Cathy home-schools their other four children. They live in Carrollton, TX, and work at the GFA headquarters. In addition, Redeemer also sponsors three indigenous missionaries through GFA. Ian & Hilary Currey - based in England with Operation Mobilization. Ian is a Video Producer and Hilary is a full-time mom, taking care of their boys Corey and Cody. Eight of their 22 years with OM were spent cruising the high seas and delivering Christian aid throughout the globe. Ron & Mae Ellen Ehrenberg create awareness, prayer, and financial support for world missions through Global Focus. They help local churches establish effective mission programs to leverage every dollar given. These former Redeemer members have served faithfully for 43 years! Ana Fangonon - Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL). She has a Masters in Linguistics and is based in Asia, where she works translating the local language and teaching literacy. Through her work, when the Bible is finally translated and published, the people will know how to read! Paul & Maggie Frank served Wycliffe in Colombia, where Paul, with a Ph.D. in linguistics, was the Director of Wycliffe translation work and Maggie served in desktop publishing. They are now in Dallas where Paul is the VP-Academic Affairs for SIL International, Wycliffe's sister organization. Maggie works in the office of the Ethnologue, SIL's catalog of the world's languages. Don & Sue Hankins, former members of Redeemer, minister to U.S. military personnel and families locally and around the world, sharing Christ with many who have deployed to Iraq for a 2nd time, helping them grow as new Christians. Their shepherd care includes the spiritual and physical needs of many young wives and mothers, as well as the families. Don also supports the Navigators Military Ministry national leadership team by providing Jason & Barb Henry - International Missions in Tosontsengal, Mongolia. They live among the people - farming, mentoring, and leading Bible study - sharing the Gospel at every opportunity. Their vegetable growing business provides a basis for outreach to the local population. Linda Langstraat - downtown Atlanta area, has served over 28 years as the Founder and Director of Adopt-a-Grandparent. Linda’s volunteers “adopt” senior citizens in the Grant Park area as a way of building relationships and spreading Christ’s love. Close to 700 seniors have participated over the years, with some 90 currently being served through various programs. Jim & Jeanne Leamer - members of Redeemer, are with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Jim is on the technology staff and conducts workshops on Technology in Missions and Translation on college campuses throughout the U.S. His message inspires students to take up the Cross of service. Rex & Jean Lieffers accepted God's call to Wycliffe Bible Translators at a mission conference 21 years ago. Their sons, Scott and Ryan, grew up in Asia. Rex is Associate Director of Wycliffe SE and Jean is working on sequels to her books about Wycliffe's 50+ years in Asia. Her book, BY FAITH will be on sale (autographed) during the conference. Ben Mathes, former Redeemer member, founded Rivers of the World. ROW navigates the world’s major rivers to access remote areas and then sends follow-up health care, educational, and evangelism teams. People in Africa, South America, and Asia are served by ROW’s unique blend of ministry, service projects, short-term mission trips, and love. A number of Redeemer members have gone on ROW trips to Belize, Peru, and Brazil. Nard & Sandy Pugyao - Jungle Aviation and Radio Services (JAARS), a Wycliffe ministry. Nard recruits, trains pilots, and leads short-term mission teams. A native of the Philippines, Nard converted to Christ as a child through the work of a Wycliffe missionary. He and his wife, Sandy, also lead short-term trips to his native village to build an airstrip and a home for a Bible translator. Redeemer helped purchase a generator and solar panels for this home. Ray & Julie Spencer serve with Luis Palau Ministries, which holds mass evangelism festivals in capital cities and influential population centers worldwide. By working with local churches to follow up on each person who indicates a commitment to Christ, trained counselors then provide guidance and work to bring these inquirers to local churches. Carl & Heidi Walton - 11 years with OMS International in Haiti and England, now in their 1st year in the Philippines, Carl and Heidi have almost completed language school. They will facilitate short-term missionaries working with Filipino evangelism and church planting teams. Two children are in college here in the states and two more in Faith Academy in the Philippines. Mark and Julie Wuerslin - Mark, a former Redeemer member, and Julie serve with Operation Mobilization, aboard the OM ship Doulos in African and Asian Ports. OM partners with local churches, utilizing an international team to bring the gospel to those who have never heard it. Julie teaches in the ship’s school for Doulos families, and Mark is in Information Technology. Congo Protestant University (CPU) Redeemer provides for one full scholarship at this Christian University in Kinshasa, Congo. Educated, Christian leaders are a vital key to stabilization and recovery in Africa. During 2006, CPU will launch a Medical School. Redeemer member Jimmy Shafe serves on the CPU North American Liaison Board. The Duval Home (PCUSA) ministers to special needs children and their families through medical, social and spiritual care. The facility grew from one family’s love to a home-away-from-home for over 200 clients. A staff of some 230 serves clients aged from 8 to 79. Redeemer’s Maggie Sheppard has been living at the Duval Home since 2004. Gospel of Glory - Dr. Alemu Beeftu and his wife Genet (speakers for Mission Conference 2001), train pastors, businessmen, and politicians in developing countries. They serve Christian leaders in more than a dozen developing nations with packaged and live training programs. The Haggai Institute, where Redeemer member John Sharp is in the development department, conducts a unique ministry growing and training indigenous Christian leaders. Haggai’s reach is especially broad in Asia, Africa, and South America. Christian lay leaders are trained in Singapore or Hawaii, then return to evangelize and plant churches in their native countries. Redeemer sponsors a local evangelist through Haggai. The Haiti Fund (PCUSA), established by Frances Landers and her husband (from John’s first church in AR) provides schools, educational materials, and loving assistance for Haitian children. Only $55.00 provides for one child for a year. 100% of these funds reach the children. This year, some funds also go to fund a Vocational School in Haiti. Living Waters Globally, three million people die each year from water-related illnesses, most are children. But Living Waters U, near Oxford, MS, tackles the world's water purity crisis one village at a time. This PCUSA project is making a difference and saving lives. Redeemer has conducted the 1st phase of a project in the Dominican Republic and will install a water purification system in 2006. Missionary Scholarship Fund - PCR established this fund to assist young people in our congregation who are called to prepare for mission service or fulltime church work. Over the past several years we have assisted numerous young people with their college or graduate school expenses. Redeemer Preschool Scholarships provide a vehicle for us to directly assist families in our community. These funds enable children to participate in our preschool, creating opportunities for children to lead families to Christ. SE Gwinnett Co-op - one of the most vital, needed local ministries we could possibly support. The Co-op provides emergency food to needy families. Every donation and every hour of labor means a family won’t have to go to bed quite as hungry tonight. Young Life-Gwinnett is vital ministry taking the Gospel to high school students. Young Life-Gwinnett makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of young people throughout our church community.Volunteer For Mission Committee ServiceOur World Mission efforts are under the guidance of our Pastor and a Missions committee. Currently, Jimmy Shafe chairs the committee. Margaret Moore and Doug Robertson share responsibility for reviewing the correspondence from our missionaries, as well as the new requests for support we receive almost daily.
