Redeemer Kidz Choir (ages 4 thru 5th graders)
Our children's choir for children ages mature 3's to 5th grade rehearses every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Redeemer Kidz room during the school year. The children are learning to worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth as they sing songs and discuss weekly Scripture verses. We’d love to have your children join us for a great time of worship and fellowship. For more info contact director, Alethea Ataelsaid @ 770.972.8380 or contact Kutania at the church.
Redeemer Preschool News
We need your prayer and support for our Preschool. We believe our Preschool is a vital ministry of our church to this community. Please pray that God will bless our school with students our teachers can love, educate, and teach His word. For many of these little ones it may be the only time they hear it. We could also use your support with the collection of Box tops and the usage of Publix key cards (at the Welcome Center). Gifts and contributions are also welcome; just designate “preschool” on your check.
Redeemer Cookbooks
Our Preschool is selling cookbooks — featuring recipes collected from parents and many of you. These make wonderful Mother’s Day gifts, and end of year teacher gifts. Cost is $10 each; see Lyn Cooper to place your order.
Baby Hats for Congo
For a recent Congo trip we sent more than 400 baby caps. Hooray for all who helped—what a ministry! The consensus is that we will continue to make caps so that when the next mission is ready to go, we will have an inventory ready. Many of you have said that it was fun and rewarding - when you finish a cap, you have accomplished something. Gail will continue to provide instructions/yarn/training - whatever you need. And please, please introduce others to our project and encourage them to get involved. Thank you so very much for all your contributions - truly God's hands are at work. If you would like to help crochet or knit baby caps, please contact Gail Vasiloff.
The Get Fit Club
would like to invite all of you and your friends to participate in this wonderful "active" group. We meet each Saturday morning at 9:00 am in the church parking lot and usually walk at one of the local Gwinnett County parks. These walks are available for all shapes, sizes, genders, ages and fitness levels. The club has also participated in charity walks and some spectacular hikes and is looking to add some adventures this year including but not limited to: zip lining, rafting, hiking, horseback riding, bowling, and will consider any other "active" events that interest club participants. New schedules are available at the welcome center or check out the Facebook group "Get Fit Club - Redeemer Church" or see Sherri McSweeney for more info.
Blood Pressure Clinics
Blood pressures will be checked by nurses at a one hour clinic on the second Sunday of each month from 9:30-10:30 am in Mary Cooper's office. Check the calendar for specific dates.
Prayer Warriors Unite!!!
Has the Holy Spirit given you a heart to pray for others? If so, then come share the joy of intercessory prayer and experience God's power manifested as believers together lift up our church, our community, and our nation in prayer. Join us each Sunday morning at 8:00 am in the cry room [101].
S.E. Gwinnett Co-Op
Our assigned months to stock the Co-Op are January and July, but they always need our help. Please pick up a paper bag with a food list attached at the Welcome Center. Redeemer has been asked to provide can chili and crackers. Fill the bag with your donations and drop it off in the large receptacle at the Welcome Center. You may also make a contribution by writing your check to Redeemer, and put “Co-Op” on the memo or go the Co-Op website and make a direct donation. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
Denominational Affiliation Updates
On Sunday, September 9, 2012 our session made an announcement to the congregation of their recent decision regarding our denominational affiliation. They have prepared a letter regarding the details of this decision, which may be read by clicking here. On Monday, September 10, 2012 this letter was sent to the PC(USA) Presbytery of Greater Atlanta.
As part of the process of possibly leaving our denomination to join a new one, a team (PET) from the PC(USA) Presbytery of Greater Atlanta held listening sessions on Nov 14 and Nov 18, 2012. All members of our church were encouraged to come and share in these sessions. More than 160 members came to be a part of these meetings. These were opportunities for the Presbytery to hear the voices of our congregation concerning this important step.
On Dec 9, 2012 all members were requested by the PC(USA) Presbytery of Greater Atlanta to participate in a survey prepared by them, to get a consensus on the membership preferences of our congregation regarding our denomination. Active members not in attendance received the same survey by mail. Approximately 93% of our congregation who completed surveys indicated they were in favor of separating from the PC(USA).
In December, 2012, Redeemer formally filed application to become a member of a Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO). In February, 2013 our Pastor and Congregation were approved for membership in ECO, pending release from the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta.
Following the collection of surveys by the PC(USA) Presbytery of Greater Atlanta, we received a letter from them dated January 3, 2013 which stated: "We as a PET team feel that the discernment process has been completed ... our discernment has indicated that God may be calling Redeemer to a new future in a new denomination." During February their PET team and our SCC team met regularly to negotiate our terms of gracious separation from the PC(USA). A draft of these terms was presented to our congregation on March 24, 2013.
On April 21, 2013, a congregational meeting was held for the purpose of voting on the proposed negotiated settlement with the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and our dismissal to ECO. 98% voted to approve the terms of gracious separation from the PC(USA).
On May 2, 2013 the Presbytery of Greater Atlanta gave their 100% approval to these terms. The effective date for dismissal to ECO will be August 1, 2013. We are grateful to the Lord and for the prayers that have been offered for this whole journey. We are also appreciative for the gracious spirit everyone showed throughout this process.
